Head Lice Removal, Comb & Conditioner Method
“So, Stella, what’s the best Head Lice treatment? If only Stella had a shiny new $2 coin for every time she’s been asked this question!
The best Head Lice treatment? Here goes:
1. Stella respects health experts, You can trust her to provide you with easy to read information from reputable sources.
2. Stella loves the comb & conditioner method of Head Lice removal. The New South Wales Health Department calls it:
“The preferred way to detect and treat Head Lice because it is effective, does not contribute to insecticide resistance in Head Lice, and also presents a low risk of skin irritation.”
According to the Better Health Channel, “Using the conditioner and comb method once each week will help your family control head lice.”*
3. It’s important to remember that kids are mega generous when it comes to sharing Head Lice (not lollies or toys or that rabbit plate they fight over at every meal. What’s with the rabbit plate??) Anyway, public health advice is that you should treat all siblings and primary caregivers. That includes you! And your partner. And any other primary caregiver. Don’t forget Nanna!

Let’s do this!
Let’s Do This!
Get comfy! Books and screens for the kids, cuppa handy for you!
Apply liberal amounts of product to the scalp and massage it through all the hair shafts. Every hair must be coated to ensure it reaches the Head Lice.
Concentrate on the hair closest to the scalp. This is where Lice tend to hang out!
Separate hair into sections and use a fine-tooth comb to comb out each area several times, wiping the product on paper towel until no more Lice and eggs appear on the towel.
You can grab Stella’s Fave Fine Tooth Comb from the SHOP
Once you’ve combed and recombed, wash out the product.
Rewash the hair if you feel like it. Style the way your incredibly Instagrammable family usually would! Take a selfie of how great your hair looks and tag @realstellasays #IVEGOTTHIS
It is essential to re-treat the hair after six days to ensure that any immature Head Lice that have hatched since the initial treatment are removed before they can lay more eggs.
You can also do a treatment in the next couple of days to ensure you’re keeping on top of any egg hatching you may have missed.
Get your family in the habit of doing this routine weekly to help your family control Head Lice.
Always clean your comb with hot soapy water and rinse off with hot water. (Dry it, then store it in your cute Stella Says bag!)
